Description

Develop your speech skills while meeting students from across the Midwest who share your passions! Speech and Debate camp is an opportunity to practice the art of effective delivery by memorizing pieces, writing speeches and honing research skills. Enjoy a cooperative and practical approach to the creative process while working with an experienced coaching staff and members of NIU’s nationally ranked speech team to find topics and scripts that you can make your own. By the end of camp, you’ll leave with a completed speech draft, a finalized cut for your interpretation pieces or improved limited preparation skills.

Learn:

  • How to find a topic for public address events.
  • How to select a quality script for interpretation events.
  • A deeper understanding of speech structure.
  • Tips and tricks for delivery .
  • How to improve yourself as a speaker and performer.

We offer all IHSA and NSDA recognized events including radio. Join us and make lasting friendships and memories that will stay with you long after camp is over.

“I loved camp! Loved, loved, loved it! I’m so happy that you continue to inspire performers year in and year out…so many good memories.” -Kay Cannon, former camper, writer for the “Pitch Perfect” movie trilogy, and writer/director for Amazon Original movie “Cinderella.”

Camp Director: Matt DuPuis holds a dual role at the university as the Forensics Coaching Specialist and the Director of Debate. He has been involved in forensics for 18 years and has served as a counselor and organizer for summer forensics programs at both Northern Illinois University and Bradley University. Matt competed at the high school and collegiate level, including his time on the national championship Bradley University Speech Team. He is an award-winning competitor and coach, who more importantly is supported by a phenomenal coaching staff and team.
